Self-discipline!?!

The Setting: Storytime at the library. Colton is sitting next to me due to the previous behavior of crawling all over another child and talking really loud.

Colton: I'm gonna tell Jesse and he will give you a spanking!
Me: No me and Jesse are a team and he does not give me spankings. You better stop right now or you will lose your cowboy boots. (yes, the coveted ones)
Colton: *tongue out at me with angry eyes*
Me: (without a word pull off cowboy boots and stuff into library bag)
Colton: Grrrrr! *Angry eyes and squeezes my arm*
Me: Alright that's it. Time to go.

*Me carrying Colton (I wouldn't dare put his boots on him to let him walk) crying, kicking and screaming all the way to the car*

In the car:
Colton(now seeing the error of his ways): But am I going to get a spanking?
Me: I don't know. Do you think you need a spanking?
Colton: Well, I like spankings.
Me: You do? Then how many do you want?
Colton: Lots of spankings.
Me: OK, I can give you lots of spankings. If that is what you like.
Colton: Yeah, I like lots of spankings.
Me: OK
(long pause)
Colton: Um, I mean I don't like them, I was just kidding.
Me: Oh no, if you really like them, I think I should give you a lot.
Colton(starting to tear up again): No, mom, I don't need any, I will make good choices.
Me: I'll have to think about it. When you behave like that, I get very frustrated and I don't like it. The other kids are trying to listen to the story and they can't hear if you are doing that.
Colton: But I will make good choices now, mom. I really don't need any spankings.

Ok, so I love it that I have a fun, creative, silly little boy, but sometimes this kid...ugg! Just to let you know I showed a little mercy and opted not to spank him, due to the facts that he is recovering from a cold and didn't get very good sleep last night. Lunch time and nap time soon followed after we got home! If any one has any good advice, I'm up for it! This only child business is ridiculous! This kid needs a little competition and sacrifice!!! (Kudos to anyone that decided to have only one child, I am not judging you in any way, I just believe that you learn a lot with a sibling!) Vacation...starting Thursday...clean clothes or not I am ready for it!!!!

Four-wheelers and Fun in the Sun!

This past weekend we traveled down to Helena to visit my dad and step-mom. Saturday we played around on the ATV-my dad's new toy, and Sunday we went boating on Holter Lake through the Gates of the Mountains. If you have never taken the 45 minute drive from Great Falls to experience this natural beauty, than you have missed out! They have a tour boat that is a very reasonable price (if you don't have a father that lives in Helena and will give you a personal tour!) and also goes into detail about various rock formations, indian paintings, and a tribute to the smoke jumpers of the fatal Mann Gulch fire. I have been on the tour boat for the past three summers with visiting family and have enjoyed it every time! If you are in the area and are looking for "Montana" stuff to do, add this to your list right below Glacier National Park! It is a lot closer and can be done on a day trip, though I would recommend staying in Helena, for it is also a treasure trove of history and entertainment! Here are some more photos of us, for more check out the links on the sidebar! =o)

Mosquito Boy

I am really sick and tired of mosquitoes! Last night I had to apply Benadryl-Itch Relief to 54 bites on Colton! During the day he is ok, but they attack him when he is sleeping. I have tried everything to include putting bug-spray (deet-free) on him before bed, but some how he wakes up with more every morning! Finally I found a mosquito canopy to put over his bed! Hopefully that alleviates the problem, at least throught this mosquito season!

Sassy Shoe Thursday- The Spongy Flip-Flops

Well, I just couldn't take a nap with this looming over my head! These are my spongy flip-flops that I got a couple of years ago at an end-of-the-season clearance (about $10). They aren't my favorite, but they are probably my most-worn (turning your attention to the deep toe imprints). They are made out of a spongy/foamy type material and though the picture makes them look pretty nice, truly they have turned from a light blue to kind of a dingy gray. And just for fun, I thought my flip-flops and I would step into a Van Gogh painting! (Landscape Near Auvers)

If you can't say something nice...

So, if you are looking at the time stamp on this, there is nothing wrong with your computer. It really is 4:30 a.m. (at least when I started this) on Thursday morning! Colton has gotten up 3 times-water, a bug (dreaming, I think) and inevitably from the water, to pee. Well, he has gotten into this nasty little habit of doing this, at this time and on the third time, I usually give in and let him crawl up into bed! Not tonight...breaking the habit...um, the only problem is that now I am wide awake! Grrrrrrr!

Anyway, there has been a verse in my head. A while back I was trying to memorize this for when I had a stinky little attitude (just read "One of those days", and "Attitude Adjustment"), and it just kind of slipped away. So I guess God is trying to tell me something by bringing this into my heart again lately. So the verse is Proverbs 18:21, What you say can mean life or death. Those who speak with care will be rewarded. NCV At the time (a month or so ago), I really had a crummy attitude and was allowing situations to determine my mood (and what I said reflected). Another version(NIV) is The tongue has the power of life and death. Those who love it will eat its fruit. When I read my Bible that night this little nugget of wisdom was waiting for me. Anyway, what I say and my attitude reflect in the people around me. I have the choice to encourage or discourage, have patience or impatience, to speak "life" or speak "death" in the people around me. And when I choose to speak life, encourage and have patience, I will reap in the benefits around me. Others will encourage me, have patience with me and my whole environment will be adjusted. Bad things will still happen, it's just my choice how I will react.

Jess K and I are meeting at the gym every afternoon and this is the perfect example. I don't "enjoy" working out and in the midst of my huffing, puffing and sweating, I am not an 80's aerobics instructor that has a plastic smile and the energy to fuel a small village. I want to whine and be grumpy and be sitting in a cozy chair eating whatever I want. Unfortunately I reap the benefits of that, but that is a whole other blog! Just her being there encourages me to be there, have fun and laugh, and get some much needed girl time! She is so awesome!

I didn't plan on writing a book this morning(ugh!), but I just wanted to share what has been on my heart for the past couple days. (And if I am not taking a nap later, I will try to participate in Sassy Shoe Thursday!)

News of the Weird

I don't know if any of you have read "Chuck Shepard's News of the Weird". They randomly publish it in the GF Tribune. He takes articles from actual papers and has a column devoted to summarizing weird stories that he has found. As far as I have read, I've never been offended by what he has published, but if you are easily offended, some of his stories are a little shocking. So you have been warned! :) It always make me chuckle and realize that there are a lot of different kind of people out there that do just about anything and also that my life isn't so crazy after all! This link will take you to News of the Weird in your state. Check it out:

Softball Saturday

Well, I have no idea what the final score was except that we were so far behind that they called the game! It was so much fun and stirred in me the enjoyment I used to get out playing sports in high school! It has been almost ten years since I have played competitively and this was just a blast, it also showed me how truly out-of-shape I am since it is two days later and I am still sore! I also didn't realize that they really don't use dirt, it is more like small, ground up shale, so even I heard a gasp from the crowd as I slid into third (um, note to self: try to avoid sliding)! I was safe, but I think the ump just felt sorry for me! We have another game tonight, so come on down and cheer us on (or join in the fun, we need more people)!

Dani and I

It's a hit!

Reach...No wonder my quads are killing me!
(Um...this is the only run I scored, thanks Jesse for catching it!)

Q is for Quirky

So Q has been my hardest letter of the week. Really, try finding 4 days (monday we got Colton) worth of Q words that can be made into a worksheet, sign language, craft and books. Of course we did Queen, Quilt and today was Quesdillas (yum!), but yesterday I decided to do Quirky! We had a blast. I found these foam sunglasses at Michaels, put a bunch of stuff on the table and let them go wild! I know that in a few days they will probably be mush at the bottom of a toy box, broken under a carseat, or tossed in the trash, but we had fun. I hope if I teach them anything, is that learning is not boring! I have a thirst for knowledge and it is exciting! I want to be one of those ladies going to college when they are 70 because I just love learning new stuff-really, I am the queen of useless knowledge! Plus it is fun to make a really big mess and get lost in whirl of creativity once in a while!!! (And yes, we are wearing our pajamas! It's all part of the fun!)

Sassy Shoe Thursday: I blame Angela for these ones!

Well Angela, I was so inspired by your blog about your coveted Target shoes, when I was there, I had to check out the shoe section, and of course found these. I only tease, really you have inspired me to be a little more "girly" and try different, more feminine styles (Jesse can't complain either!) Anyway, I really like these, they are semi-comfortable (except when they gave me blisters the first time I wore them in Salt Lake), are pretty casual, and were pretty cheap. Colton also wanted to get in on the fun. I never have a problem getting a picture out of him!!! These are his hand-me-down cowboy boots and when he wears them his name is either Cowboy or Cowboy Colton, you will be scolded or ignored if you refer to him as anything else! Yeehaw

Colton's Quilt

I couldn't really think of anything to blog about so I wanted to show you how Colton's quilt turned out in honor of our preschool "Letter of the Week" is Q, and today was Q is for Quilt! We made little paper quilts using hexagon shaped pictures of themselves! Any way, I know that I enjoy a little closure and am sure that all of you have been waiting in suspense to see how it turned out! I also included a picture of a little arrangement on one of the walls that I like how it turned out. It has a lamp and little shelf that Rachel M, her mom and I found at a garage sale of a craft lady who was just getting rid of a ton of really cute stuff, a couple of small, rusty traps that I found at an antique shop in Amish-area of Missouri, and one of my favorite pics of Colton when he was about a year and they caught him in a perfect, on-the-tippy-toes giggle! It is a work in progress, but I just felt like blogging something!
(yea, tomorrow is sassy shoe thursday!)

To the Zoo and a Belated Birthday!

Here are our pictures from the Salt Lake City-Hogle Zoo and some from my dad's in Helena. They had a little birthday party for him. He said "Oh, I like having three birthdays!" Any excuse for cake and icecream is good for me!!! Sorry the blog is so short, but I thought I better put up some pics while I get a chance!

Sassy shoe Thursday-my new torture devices!

So I did not go to the shoe store with the intent to find the craziest running shoes that I could find, but once I tried these on they were the best "feeling" pair (and at a pretty good price). Me and running have a love/hate relationship. I love the results of running, I love the euphoric feeling I have after running, but really why does any sane person crawl out of bed at the wee hours of the morning and think, "Gee, I really want to sweat like a hog and punish myself for the bowl of ice-cream I ate right before bed!" Well apparently Jesse and I are trying to join that elite club of people that I see jogging by my house every morning as I shut the window in my gluttonous shame! So back to the shoes, I hadn't planned on getting these, and actually thought they were really ugly-but they are starting to grow on me. Secretly I'm starting to think they are cute and even if I am wearing boring old gray sweats, they add that *ZOW*, #BAM#, >WHIZZ < (imagine an old Batman fight scene!) Here's me this morning at a yucky time of the day, a time that I should be snuggled under the blankets, dreaming of yummy, fatty, rich foods (can you tell that we are dieting also?)! I dared not ask Jesse if he would let me take a pic of him, I was lucky enough to get him to take them of me and my shoes!!! I also have an extra dose of energy due to the fact that we are on our way TONIGHT to go get Colton (we won't meet up with them until Saturday, but we're making it a mini vacation!!! YAAAAAAHHHHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Wheels!!!

I am so proud of my son because just up until lately he was very afraid of anything that would compromise his balance. Seeing him confident on wheels, shows me how he has tackled these little fears of balance and control! I am so excited to see him and how much he has matured in 3 months!!!! THREE MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday America!

Happy Birthday America!!!

Sparklers-A 4th of July staple!

Caed and Colton at the McLeans last year.

I love it when a picture completely captures the moment! This was his first time getting a parachute!

Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July!
